The differences between Charter and TUBs Fiber

      <dc:subject>audio/video</dc:subject>

Phone service is going to be the same so let’s skip that…

Internet service
For most people they just want it to work...every time they sit down to use it they expect it to work. For some people using Charter (like Gerri and I) it does work 99.8% of the time. For others in Tullahoma including my work...it’s about 85% which doesn’t cut it. Can TUB run their network better? Time will tell.

Speed difference. Charter maxes out at 10M down and 1M up for residential. TUB starts at 10M and then has 15M/3M, 20M/5M, 50M/15M, and 100M/30M.
But they must provide as close to 100% up time as possible to appease the Charter users who are getting that right now.

Cable service
Can TUB provide better analog channel signal, I have heard from beta testers that it does look better. How much will they compress signal strength to their HD channels?
Just how will there DVR work versus Charter’s, Dish, DirectTV and TiVo owners. That could be a HUGE issue and one I would strongly recommend you try out before you switch. There is noting worse than a DVR that doesn’t work well, just ask the Charter users who had the Moxi box, before Charter changed. Of course no DVR beats a TiVo and it’s the standard that all other DVRs are measured against.

One area that TUB is really making a huge mistake is with cable cards. They (as of this writing) are not going to sell or support cable cards. I have not asked the FCC if Fiber companies are mandated to carry then as Cable companies are...but I will find that out. Anyway, without CC Tullahoma citizens who have CC enabled TVs and TiVo will not be able to use this wonderful service. Did you just buy a TiVo Series 3 DVR? tough you can’t use it with TUB. Get a nice flat screen with CC support so you don’t have to have a ugly set top box, sorry you got to get the box.

Other municipalities that have fiber do have CC support and Verizon FIOS and other major companies are also supporting CCs so why not TUB? Hopefully it’s not because their Technology staff just didn’t want to deal with it.

So what channels does Fiber have that Charter doesn’t? This is the list I came up with…

WTVF channel 50

I want to switch when this service becomes available, but things I have to work out ...
Will the network be up for Internet service, we have a wonderful connection.
Will they change their mind and support CC...I doubt it
Can I live with their DVR
Are their analog channels better quality than Charter?

I hope this article helps Tullahoma Citizens think before they just switch and think they are finally sticking it to Charter...maybe TUB will be better and then again maybe your just stepping out of the pot into the fire.

From Grafton Wis:

A woman has been arrested for failing to return two books to the Grafton Library.

Heidi Dalibor was arrested after she failed to return the books, “Angels and Demons” and “White Oleander”, last year.
“I said, what could they possibly do? They can’t arrest me for this… I was wrong,” Dalibor said.

Dalibor did not respond to four notices from the library, two phone calls and two letters. The library forwarded the case to police, who issued a citation for Dalibor’s failure to return the materials or pay the fine. The citation included a court date, which Dalibor admits she ignored.

With arrest warrant in hand, police showed up at Dalibor’s door and led her away in handcuffs.

While the police have been criticized for going so far, the police chief said they simply followed the law.

“None of this would have been necessary if she followed the agreement and returned the books,” said Grafton Police Chief Charles Wenten.

Dalibor paid her $170 fine and was released.

“I completely take responsibility for not paying my fine on time and not going to my court date,” Dalibor said.

Still, she isn’t planning on returning the books.

“I still have the books and I don’t plan to return them because they’re paid for now,” Dalibor said
