After deciding it is time to start potty training one question some have is should I use cloth training pants or disposables? Some may not even know that it is a choice. We used disposable diapers on our little one and so you would think well let’s just use pull ups, or easy ups.
What is the difference? Look at disposables first: Disposables are more convenient to use, almost like a disposable diaper. More expensive (depending how long potty training last), and for those who are green these days, they do put more waste in the landfills. Also this option could take longer for the little one to learn to potty train, these are more like diapers and may wick moisture away from baby’s skin making it difficult for the little one to know if they’ve had an accident.
Cloth training pants have options. All in ones which are the underwear plus a waterproof layer or the cloth underwear by themselves but you will need to purchase separate waterproof pants to go over the underwear to keep accidents from leaking. The initial cost to the cloth trainers can be expensive but in the long run you will save money because they are reusable. All you have to do is launder them and they are ready to be used over and over again. For those who are green this is a great alternative because you also save the environment from more waste going into the landfills. It may take less time to potty train because they help the little one know when they have had an accident because it doesn’t hold moisture in like disposables do.
You can buy name brand cloth trainers: Gerber, Gerber all in ones, Imse Vimse, Bummis, Little Beetle, Kushies, Scotty Potty, and Scotty Patty. You can also go to
Etsy and buy handmade cloth training pants. There are many other brands out there other than the ones I have listed.
We have chosen to use cloth trainers and we will be using the all in ones. It fits all of our family’s needs. Don’t forget to check back often to see our little one’s progress.
