I was curious this weekend to see who owns randy.com. As most of you know simple name dot coms all sold in the late 90’s as ppl realized that they might be able to make money on them as the web picked up steam. So the chance that you can find a meaningful three, four, or five letter dot com name is impossible.

So I did a whois search for randy.com and saw the person who owns randy.com. His name is Randy Padawer, Ph.D. and he lives in Germantown, TN. A few years ago I did the same search and the person who owned it wasn’t from TN. So I was curious about why Dr. Padawer bought the name and I thought it was cool that someone from TN had the name.

So I emailed him and he responded that he had just bought the name a few months ago. The selling price… 16,000. Not bad for a five letter dot com name. He does have plans to use it and not to just sit on it hoping to make more money from someone who needs the name.
